1.3.1 Generation of ideas from the entrepreneur’s skills, expertise and aptitudes

Here are some techniques you can use to generate business ideas:

Skills acquired ability through training and experience, for example, using a power drill or diagnostic machine, managing a meeting, repairing a machine etc.

Expertise knowledge including theoretical knowledge.  Knowledge about a power drill (sizes, wattage, safety precaution); knowledge of paints (mixing of colours, durability, how to use paints etc.)

Aptitudes a particular talent or inclination, for example, art, music, flair for languages

  • While qualifications are important and very useful, formal training does not guarantee success in a small business enterprise.
  • You may have acquired other skills through your hobbies or other non-career activities that you could use as ideas for your own business.
